Three Ways of Practicing for Our Sustainable Future!

The earth has been exhausted. As our society was developed from the era of agriculture to industry, we need more resources to produce commodities. Additionally, people have been more financial capability, so that they have got the more desire for consumption. The more our desire for consumption is rising, the more the earth is used off.  In order to overcome this problem, the concept of sustainable development emerged. Sustainable development means that the need for present generation is fulfilled in range of not damaging the capability that can be fulfilled the needs for future generation. There are so many ways that practice for sustainable development, but cutting down overconsumption is the most essential solution. Here is how to practice for our sustainable future on society as well as personal side. Cutting down electric power consumption, sustainable consumption, dwellings are efficient ways of ensuring a sustainable future.

One way to reduce overconsumption on society is cutting down electric power consumption. To produce electric power consumption is the biggest reason that causes natural resources to be scarce. To make more electric power energy, we have to construct more power plant that produce it by relying on natural resources- minerals, metals, ores and fossil fuels etc. Therefore, we should reduce the use of electric power consumption essentially. For example, the World Wide Fund for Nature (WWF) launched the worldwide movement named Earth Hour as a symbol for commitment to the planet. Earth Hour is the movement that encourages individuals, communities, households and business to turn off their lights for one hour. According to Wikipedia, it was famously started as a lights-off event in Sydney, Australia, in 2007. Since then, it has grown to engage more than 7000 cities and towns worldwide. Today, Earth Hour engages a massive mainstream community on a broad range of environmental issues. The one-hour event continues to remain the key driver of the now larger movements. In 2006, Earth Hour also continued on Saturday, March 19, from 8:30 p.m. to 9:30 p.m. during participants' local time.

Another way for reducing overconsumption is to practice sustainable consumption. Sustainable consumption means that people consume products or services that not are disposable but are recyclable within the range of not depleting resources. In other words, people consume eco-friendly goods and shorten unnecessary spending. There are many things we can practice. In stance, we use a tumbler rather than disposable cup. For more concrete example, Sungshin women’s university can run the online flea market community called 알뜰장터. The students sell their used clothes, shoes, bags, books, electronics or even cosmetics that they don’t use now in low prices. Consequently, not only the sellers’ students can earn money but also buyers’ students can buy more reasonable price, so that both of them contribute to the society by shortening the waste of goods.

In regard to second way, the other way is that live in sustainable dwelling. Sustainable dwelling, which include country houses and eco-friendly houses, is houses that conserve energy and resources as well as pursue the people’s health and comfortable environment from the range of planning, constructing, managing to demolishing the building. The houses are made of the energy and resources from the nature and are designed as to preserve wasted energy by trapping houses’ heat.

To sum up, we can know the way for sustainable future on three aspects. we can save our future by cutting down electric power consumption, sustainable consumption and sustainable dwelling. These ways have a good impact on the quality of our present life as well as our sustainable future. We can save our money by practicing sustainable consumption or make our life healthy in both mind and body from sustainable dwelling. For these reason, more and more people are interested in sustainable future, so that, these days, new lifestyle was brought, called LOHAS. According to Wikipedia, Lifestyles of Health and Sustainability (LOHAS) is a demographic defining a particular market segment related to sustainable living, "green" ecological initiatives, and generally composed of a relatively upscale and well-educated population segment. Included in the cultural creative demographic are consumers of New Age goods and services. These positive movements are expected to make this current generation as well as future generation, furthermore, our earth happy.
